Pathways through Education

This section includes practical advice, information about the legal framework (Code of Practice for England, September 2014) and signposting to other organisations which may be able to help with educational issues.

The ‘Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND) Code of Practice: 0 – 25 years’ is statutory guidance for organisations who work with and support children and young people with Special Education Needs (SEN) and their parents. Detailed information about SEND can be found here.

The Encephalitis Society developed an information resource for teachers “Encephalitis - The Impact on Education”. This comprehensive handbook is the ideal resource for any teacher or school in need of advice and guidance on how to meet the complex needs of children who have been affected by Encephalitis. It covers a range of topics to meet all needs. When requesting a hardcopy, we can tailor the content to the topics you require to ensure it meets your needs. This resource is available as a hardcopy directly from usas a PDF or as an interactive iBook compatible with Macs and iOS devices. We have a limited number of hardcopies available, and to help reduce administration costs, we're encouraging the use of the PDF and iBook wherever possible.

The handbook covers a range of topics including cognitive skills, memory, planning & organisation skills, attention & concentration, sensory changes, speech, language, movement & co-ordination, Epilepsy, fatigue, behaviour, social skills, bullying and more. Contact us today, if you would like more information on this handbook or to request a hardcopy.

We are extremely grateful to Eden Dora Trust for funding that enabled the Design and Print of this Guide.
