The Encephalitis Society is delighted to have the support of The October Club who raised £500,000 for us in 2013.
In 1987, moved by the plight of Leukaemia sufferers, a fundraising dinner was held at The Savoy. This proved to be so successful, that it was decided to make it an annual event each October, hence 'The October Club'.
The October Club have raised almost £8.5million for UK charities since their inception, and we are extremely excited to be working with them.
Each year thier committee chooses a charity for which the funds raised will prove transformational.
The Charities that they support are typically UK based, doing remarkable work with the ambition to extend this, and normally not in the same field as the beneficiaries of the previous two years.
Their generosity will enable us to expand our support services through Neuropsychology and raise awareness of encephalitis through initiatives such as World Encephalitis Day 22nd February (launched in 2014).
Our sincere thanks to everyone involved with The October Club
The October Club Race Day at Ascot
As part of their support of The Encephalitis Society in the lead up to their main fundraising dinner at The Savoy, The October Club honoured The Society in a July race-day at Ascot.
Guests were greeted with champagne on arrival and were given the opportunity to hear more about our amaing work over lunch. The day was topped off with plenty of racing tips and a lunchtime auction which raised a staggering £15,000.
Members of The October Club and staff from The Society were given access to the Paddock, Box Number 1 and The Winners Enclosure.
The Main Event - The Savoy
The October Savoy dinner, attended by approximately 400 largely City-based individuals, who enjoy a 3 course dinner and evening enterainment which include horseracing, silent and live auction, along with talks by our own Professor Tom Solomon and Vice President Robert Sutton. The event was attended by our Ambassadors who participated in the auction and Aliki sang Ave Maria to a standing ovation by the audience.
The October Club is supported by sponsorship, donating prizes for the auction, advertising in thier programmes, attending the evening dinner function and the generosity of its members.
Here are some of the photos from this transformational evening.
